Well it’s been a bit longer than I would have liked but my swallow quilt top is now finished- I couldn’t wait for some nice daylight so apologies for the dark photos! I have the wadding and some fabric I’d really like to use as the backing, but I need to lay it out to see if I have enough. I’m pleased with my banner-holding birdies, and last night had a flicker of recognition looking at them: they seemed sort of Mexican, somehow. I dug out a book about Mexican artist Frida Kahlo and sure enough, many paintings in the book have banners proclaiming their titles or dedications, and a few had birds holding the banners, most famously this one:

Frida Kahlo is among my favourite painters, so this is no accident; those birds must have been fluttering around in my subconscious!
I’m pleased with the eyes and beaks, and glad I did them all at once. They just seem to have come alive now and I’m looking forward to quilting it. But it’s a fair size so I’d better get cracking!

Oh my goodness, that is amazing! So lovely. x
Sash..I am just speechless..there is such a lightness and joy about the whole scene..it is perfect!xx
Thank you!
Wow! This is going to be one spectacular quilt!
Speaking of Frida Kahlo, have you seen the Frida’s Garden fabric that Alexander Henry Fabrics made?
Thanks! I haven’t come across that fabric before, off to Google it now…
