A quick image search for ‘Noah’s Ark quilt’ throws up all sorts of beautiful pieces, but none so nice as this one. But then I’m rather biased, because my grandmother made this quilt for my sister, 22 years ago. It’s machine pieced and hand appliquéd and quilted. It’s showing one or two signs of age, but my mother has taken loving care of it and it’s still very fresh. Sadly the little dove that perches in the triangular roof piece, complete with embroidered olive branch in her beak, has gone missing. But all the other little stuffed animals are there.
I love the fabric choices and also the way the sky is made up of pieced squares rather than one single piece of blue fabric.
She made one for each of her grandchildren bar one -the late-coming three year old- and I know she’s sad not to be making any more. I’m trying to follow in her footsteps, but at the moment a king sized hand pieced and quilted log cabin quilt (my parents’) is definitely beyond me!

it looks wonderful… I am sure you could made one.. it just takes a little time xx
Thank you! I would love to make a big quilt for my own bed… one day!

I can see the talent runs in the family! You could make another dove to replace the missing one…
It’s amazing! I love how the whale fits so snuggly in his wave.
