Today is a beautiful, if windy, day. A good drying day, as the grey haired bus grannies say to me in the mornings. The angels and final four decorations have been finished for a while now but the driving rain has prevented me from venturing out to photograph them, but we went out earlier to explore, basket in hand!
Here are the last four stars, in white and green this time:
I’m really pleased with these and their purple counterparts (visible in the photo of all the decorations, in my previous post), so much so I may make bigger ones to sell individually. I have so many ideas and plans, all of which I think about at night. You often hear artists and creative people expounding the virtues of midnight thinking, moonlit ideas and flashes of night time brilliance. An image of a poet sitting bolt upright in bed, feverishly scrabbling for a quill in the dark and scratching out his genius on the bedside parchment. I never supposed these would come instead as a methodical, deliberate means of keeping myself awake as I sit/stand/stroke Sol’s head in dogged determination to get him back to sleep!
My mum sent me a photo of the fairy my grandma made for our own advent calendar, and I was inspired by it to design my own ones. She is surrounded by rather more tropical foliage (residing as she does in Trinidad) than the angels in my pictures!
I wanted to continue with the slightly folky theme of the advent calendar (and indeed lots of my work) by changing the traditional red/white colour scheme a bit. I love the way this goldy yellow and deep purple go together and had plenty of sequins from which to select some deep purple for the body and white for the wings:
Apologies for the lighting- it appears you can have too much sunlight- only photographically speaking of course!
Now for the actual calendars… I have some deep red fabric in mind, not a Christmas one exactly but speckled with tiny dark flowers. I would really love a purple background on two of them but am reigning myself in somewhat to ensure they sell well! Hopefully I should buy it today so will upload some images soon.
Now back to my bunting, more of which later… sew sew sew
