Apologies for the poorly lit midnight photography- it wasn’t quite midnight although did feel like it! The elephant quilt top is all finished and ready to start quilting. The dimpled stitching you can see now is just the basting, or tacking stitches to hold it all together, and these get taken out once it’s all done. You can see a bit of Zoo in the square border patches, plus my favourite ochre, some Liberty Lawn and green florals to add some variety. The yellow backing fabric arrived yesterday so went straight into the washing machine to get any shrinkage out of the way. I think it’s lovely and cheery, and perfect for a baby:
My local haberdashery/craft shop, Meg’s Attic, has a great range of quilting fabric, but not a lot of the more retro stuff you can get online, so I had to get this one from Fabric Rehab. I do feel bad not fully supporting my local high street shop, but frequent it as much as I can. I got my thread and some quilting needles there today.
So tonight I’ll start by quilting the elephants and flowers, to secure them before drawing out all the lines to quilt the red background.
