An owl hat for Solomon! My husband’s cousin Polly is a woman of many talents; not content with being a professional musician and music tutor, she also sews, makes beautiful jewellery AND she knits! Sickening, really. She made Sol an adorable orange hat when he was small, and some zebra mittens complete with manes, tails and button eyes which he still wears and loves. She sent me an email the other day with he most recent crafty exploits and the stand out favourite was this owl hat, which she made for their other cousin’s new baby. It is an adaptation of this pattern, originally from Ravelry which for the ignorant (me) is an online community for knitters and crocheters to share patterns and ideas. Sounds very jealousy-inspiring!
Being an independent crafty clever clogs Polly changed the pattern, re-sized it for a baby (or obliging banister) and voila- the cutest little cable knit owl. I have already requested (demanded) that she make one for Sol. I am going to measure his sizeable noggin ASAP. Luckily it is so cold here you practically need a hat in the summer, so he will get lots of wear out of it. I’m so excited!
