Thanks to my big hoop, new proper quilting needles and an actual thimble (and a bit of You Tube to ascertain how best to use the needles!) the main body of the elephant quilt is now finished. I quilted it in two centimetre increments (I know, metric measurements in the staunchly imperial quilting world) and am really pleased with the gentle increasing patterns it has made.
There are straight lines as well as curves and the overall effect is hopefully pleasing to the eye! What remains now is to quilt all of the squares that form the border- I am going for hearts again- and to self-edge the quilt using the spotty backing fabric. The hearts are all drawn out now:
And so it’s just down to my new thimble friend (a Clover if anyone is interested!), needle and grey Gutermann quilting thread. Nearly there!
