I am very pleased to say that the elephant baby quilt commission is all finished! I put the final touches on it today, after getting in a right tizz last night pinning the border- for some reason I just couldn’t do it and it was stressing me out! I managed it in the end and stitched it all today.
I was actually really pleased with how the yellow spotty backing fabric looked once you could see it from the front, in the border. I think it brings a youthful sort of cheeriness!
I’m glad I went for grey thread in the end- it isn’t too obvious on the front or the back, which I think a cream or a red would have been.
I also quilted a bicycle onto the bottom left corner as the dad-to-be is really into cycling: I didn’t post this picture originally as I wanted it to be a surprise, and they have now all seen the quilt, so here’s a photo of it:
And finally here’s a shot of it on a bed, all soft and wavy as really quilts are meant to look! I have left the top left hand square unquilted and unbound, in order to embroider the baby’s name and date of birth once both are known, which won’t be until the end of April. So the client will get a quick peek tomorrow and then I’ll hang on to it until it is ready to give to the little family.
Next up is another baby quilt commission, which has taken precedence over the advent calendars as Christmas is a while away and the baby recipient is a good 6 weeks old already! It has to have a strawberry, a red tractor and a black labrador on it. I have ordered the labrador fabric and will start sketching tonight…
