In between sleep battles with Sol and thinking positive thoughts about labour and home birth I have been working on the advent calendars, I promise! It is pockets at the moment and this year I am embroidering the numbers on rather than using cut felt as I did last year.
In part this was because I thought embroidering would be faster than tracing, cutting, glueing and sewing the felt numbers into place. Ha! ‘Tis not. But it will be longer-lasting and gives a real hand-written sort of vibe to the calendars I think. In fact, I think all hand sewing is very personal in the same way as handwriting, and not just number and letter characters; I can instantly recognise my own quilting stitches the same way a page of my writing.
There’s one lot of red pockets for the advent calendar with the green snowflake fabric- I just thought green pockets as well would be green overload as there is the tree to come. They will have white thread numbers too.
Lastly, a picture of my boys planting herb seeds- the veg patch outdoors is all sown too and now it’s all about slugs, rabbits and escaped calves trampling all over Oli’s lovingly tended plot!
