Many apologies for the dearth of blog activity; a cold and a hectic weekend down to Glasgow have put paid to much crafting! I’m still quilting when I get the chance, but two more lines of running stitch do not a blog post make. Well, not an interesting one.
I’ve mentioned already about a commission I have to design and make two giant tea cosies for big ten-cup teapots. I bought one as a gift, and handily can use it as my model, too!
As I’m told the teapots take pride of place in their kitchens, I didn’t want to hide them under hat-like tea cosies. Plus, these would be easier and less stressful to make. Why make life easy for oneself.
After a cup of tea and a slice of the scorched black cake (not as badly scorched as we’d thought and rather good), as well as a mild degree of procrastination, I started designing the pattern for the cosies. It’s basically going to be a padded drawstring bag with gaps for handle and spout, and I plan to make up a scrap fabric one first to test my pattern. (At the moment it looks more like a pattern for a nappy- or maybe I just spend too long looking at nappies)
For the real deal, I’m still undecided on fabric, but really like this one from Fabric Rehab:
I’ll have to hunt it down from elsewhere, though, as it’s out of stock. For the other one, I’m edging towards Cath Kidston-esque florals, or maybe a Liberty print from my stash. More progress tonight hopefully- got to prep dinner and get a toddler up from his nap now…
Obligatory baby shot:
