Time for a new hat as the beloved owl hat (knitted by Polly) finally stopped stretching enough! It has been passed down to Otis and I thought I’d try to make a similar one -minus the owl cable, which I haven’t got time to master! I used leftover Drops Andes, a fluffy, cosy yarn I used for Oli’s hat.
I freestlyed it, with a moss stitch border to stop rolling up and the same ‘ear’ effect of the owl hat. I found it meant the hat fit for ages, as the ears just got smaller! It was also very easy to knit a big tube in the round and then just stitch it up.
I used one of my Gabrielle Reith buttons, purchased from her NEOS event. Sol’s pleased (although he doesn’t look it in the top photo!) and cosy!
