I first made one of these as a wedding present for friends of ours, modelled on one my grandmother had made my sisters and I as children. You hang a decoration on the tree from each numbered pocket until the 24th of December, which is the Christmas fairy or angel. As girls it was always a big deal to lift the fairy to her spot at the top of the tree, and we squabbled so much that in the end we all had to hold a bit of her and do it together!
My mum still hangs it up every year and it has such happy memories for us, I decided to design some to sell. That was 2010, and I made and sold four. This year I made five, and sold four of them before June! The last one went a couple of weeks ago. I’m taking names and details of people who would like one for 2012, so if you’re interested, leave me a comment on the blog or send me an email. All 24 little felt decorations are hand sewn, and so is the tree. The numbers are hand embroidered and machine stitched into place, as is the binding round the edge and the hanging loops. The calendars cost £75.
(And there’s ample room in the pockets for a chocolate coin or two as well!)
